5H Visualization

IDEA: A visualization of the distribution of lyrics and singing time of all Fifth Harmony songs. This idea comes from a healthy obsession with Fifth Harmony and its members: Camila, Lauren and the rest.

05/25/2022 - a spark

While driving to the historic city of Pompeii and listening to Fifth Harmony in the car, a glorious idea of visualizing 5H songs and seeing who sang how much of each song sparked in my brain. It would be super cool to see if there is any correlation with each member's success today and maybe I could get some more attention to it and it would go all the way up to Camila and Lauren.

05/29/2022 - dataset setup

For a quick moment I take out my laptop before being picked up by my sister and brother in law to quickly start on my brilliant idea. As a start I check out 5H's discography on Spotify and start noting down songs from the three albums and one EP. Going further the third album will be optional because it doesn't have all five members.

05/31/2022 - dataset expansion

I sit down to extend the columns of the dataset by columns for the total amount of time sung by all individual members and columns for each second of the song to note down who is singing. I added a column for the song length. I quickly skimmed the internet to see if I could find the lyric distribution and there are some videos but it would probably come down to the same as doing it myself. Or use GENIUS that has a lot already but not the little additions. It would be a uniform source though. However this exists. It would be fun to debunk or support it. It looks like the percentages are off and there are no sources. Also this. Should I add up different versions on Spotify (acoustic and such). Started working on the first song "Don't Wanna Dance Alone".

06/01/2022 - dataset

I'm sitting at the airport and downloaded all 5H albums, while charging my laptop so I can continue on the flight if I want to. Started on "Miss Movin' On".

06/02/2022 - dataset

After a long day of doing nothing I decided to sit down and continue. I completed the columns counting up the total times for each individual member adding up the cells containing their initials.

Added metadata about individual members to a new excel tab.

06/17/2022 - dataset

I tried to add some data for Reflection on my flight back home from Rome. But copying over the format made me spend the entire flight trying to copy the coloring conditions to the other sheets. In the end I didn't manage it.
