If I have learnt one thing over the last 7 years, it's that watching award shows gives me incredibly joy. A few weeks back when I was writing about motivation, I mentioned that people winning awards is the greatest motivation for me and so, as January is usually the busiest month of the year for uni deadlines and exams, I usually have an award every Sunday to look forward to and spend some time, being happy for random people and judging people's outfits on the red carpet while staying up at ungodly hours.

Well, since this year all award shows are postponed to later this year, January is going by without any of the excitement I usually get. It usually starts in the beginning of December when the HFPA and SAG announce the nominees for the annual Golden Globe and SAG Awards - postponed. During the time until the Globes and SAGs actually happen, I usually try to see as much nominated movies as possible, so I know what the fuss is about - wasn't possible. Then after NYE and starting the year off right (hopefully) on the first sunday in January I stay up to watch the Golden Globes, which are always super fun, because everyone gets drunk and it's all very casual. The winners also give a good prediction of who is up for the Oscar-race and who might win. This year however - GGs postponed. A week later Critics' Choice Awards, which are fun to watch, because I agree with who wins most of the time, but also: postponed. A week later SAG-Awards, well you get the point. And of course the Oscar nominations a few days after the SAG-Awards, the Oscar's Luncheon and the Oscars themselves.

Aside from the award shows, the Actors on Actors interviews by Variety are released during January, and they are super fun to watch, because they match actors, who have either been friends for years or have never met each other to interview each other. The respect and admiration between them is so great and the questions are always super interesting. Similar to those, and also one of my highlights during exam season are the Hollywood Reporter's Roundtables, where they get people they think will be nominated in a certain category at the Oscars, together and also just have very interesting discussions about the industry, their respective movies and other random stuff.

So needless to say none of all this (except for the Actors on Actors interviews) happened this January, so obviously I went back and watched old award shows. Luckily, there are people who upload the full thing to YouTube so people like me can watch it. Aside from the fact that I just love watching people win awards and have been obsessed with award shows for several years now, rewatching award shows is a lot of fun for me, because a few years later I have watched more movies and series that were nominated and I know more actors and actress and filmmakers. So seeing movies and series that now, I actually know, win and seeing people that I can recognize now if I see them in a crowd, because I have finally watched something they were in, is pretty fun. You also get a lot more of the jokes, when you know what they are about! Of course another reason to watch award shows again is to see iconic moments like Olivia Colman showing the middle finger during her Oscar speech, or Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield kissing as Ryan Gosling wins his Golden Globes or John Krasinski crying while Emily Blunt wins her well-deserved SAG-Award. We all know there are even more epic moments like that but I feel like these deserve a shoutout. Anyhow, I can't wait for awards to happen again and for cinemas to open again, so we can finally watch movies on the big screen again...

...and see unforgettable moments like when Adele Dazeem sang "Let it go".
