CW 38: Lauren Jauregui

20.09.2020

Did you know she was part of Fifth Harmony?

I certainly didn't. So when I first heard about Lauren Jauregui it was because of her song "Invisible Chains" on the Birds of Prey Soundtrack - which definitely was my monthly obsession back in March of this year. Recently, while I was obsessed with Halsey - yes I know she's been around for ages but I only discovered her like a month ago - I came across the song "strangers" from Halsey's album "hopeless fountain kingdom" which features Lauren Jauregui and is just epic. I left it at just listening to that song like 1000 times every day. Anyways, I decided to do the logical thing of looking up if Lauren Jauregui had some more songs I'd like, so I looked her up on Youtube.

Turns out, she kind of just started recording singles on her own and there wasn't much I could listen to but what I found (Expectations, 50ft., Lento) was good, not particularly my type of song but her voice makes up for it - if that makes sense - and the more I listened to the songs the more I liked them (update: i really LOVE them now). Of course with listening to her songs, all the interviews are recommended on Youtube and so I had to watch all of those as well. She seems like a very open-minded and empathic person so I'm assuming she must be a great person to be around. I like that she is very much real and always sticks to her beliefs and principles. One might think: ok this is where the story ends, she just found some good songs by a great artist and human being. But here comes the reason why I've been so hooked. #Camren

Disclaimer #1: if you just wanna hear some new music, stop reading and go check out Lauren's stuff, but if you have time and are up for a little conspiracy theory, go ahead and read the rest.

Disclaimer #2: Lauren has denied #Camren several times and has come out to say making this whole story up is disrespectful and invasive. Make up your own mind about it but always stay respectful. We're all just human!

I had seen that hashtag in the comment section of "strangers" before, but didn't think about it too much. At some point I looked it up though and holy moly if you didn't know yet: The internet is a weird and beautiful place. As it turns out there have been rumors going around for ages (pretty much since Fifth Harmony started) that Lauren Jauregui and Camila Cabello were dating. And as it is, in modern times the whole #Camren-thing has a huge following and thus there is tons of videos and articles trying to prove Camren was real at some point or better is still a thing.

Now, yes, the whole thing is a waste of time, cause we really should care less about what other people do in their private lives. But: Watching one video I thought "this is just some people blowing things out of proportion" and I don't really care, but here's the thing. These videos are so ridiculous that they are great entertainment (well, only if you are as bored as me atm) and get really addictive at some point. The creators would find footage of Lauren and Camila literally just looking at each other and reading things into every single gesture and word and add some super corny and dramatic music. They would find "connections" in the most generic love songs (no offense) both of them wrote and "confirm" their relationship. One has to have seen one of these videos to see how hilarious they can get, so here you go! The most entertaining part to me is when they zoom in so much to show something in the background somewhere or something in the reflection that really could be anything, but they are like "this can only be Lauren in the bunk there!".

These videos have been very entertaining to me, so at some point you start thinking, maybe there was something going on. Some of these videos are actually rather solid, but maybe that's just my brainwashed mind speaking - what do I know. Anyhow, if you were wondering what made me think there might have been a #Camren at some point. Here's a little list, that you can do your own research on:

  • the AMAs 2018
  • the kiss in the cab
  • the whole sun/moon thing
  • the tour bus thing
  • "strangers" and "she loves control" lyrics

Or what if it's all just a beautiful and genuine friendship and it being romantisized by strangers is just weird and creepy?
