CW 46: Dancing

"We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once." - Friedrich Nietzsche

So this week I left my apartment for two occasions: one, I had to take out the trash 'cause it was starting to smell and two, I was invited to visit friends across the street (bless you guys!), aside from that I stretched all my food as long as I could 'cause I didn't even want to go for grocieres, and it worked. I kind of felt like the mom in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" when she said she's gonna need to stretch the kale for a little bit longer. Anyways long story short: my whole life took place in 36 squaremetres and so my mind slowly went down the street of insanity. So, what I did to get away from my computer every now and then, and take breaks from doing computer vision tasks was to dance. Mostly, to completely random songs that came up on Youtube and without a coreography whatsoever. Obviously, I'm not a professional dancer (people who've seen me dance can confirm that), so I'm glad I live on a rather high floor so the people who might see me dancing like I do, when I'm alone in my apartment are limited.

However, let me tell you about the amazing people on this earth, who actually can dance, and were coreographed dance moves don't look like you're having a seizure. I came across a bunch of videos by Kyle Hanagami while I was listening to Camila Cabello's "Crying in the Club". So Kyle is a coreographer and there is lots of videos by him on Youtube, but there is also tons of other videos, mostly filmed in the same dance studio (which has a very cool motto: "Unity in Diversity" - i like that). Anyways, so I came across these videos and just couldn't stop watching. These people are sooo incredible and it's just so much fun to watch them dance to songs, you might even hate. Like this one, where they dance to Katy Perry's "Swish Swish" which is in my opinion one of the very bad songs of this century, to put it mildly. Anyhow, these people dancing to it, is just so energizing and you just can't do anything else than stare at your screen. It's insane how much control these dancers have over their bodies. Their attidude is wilde and sometimes you're just sitting there thinking "Do they even have bones???". Seeing their faces in these videos gives me flashbacks to High School, where you run into a group of cool people in the corridor who all stare you down, like you are the most miserable human being who ever walked the earth Their attitude is just insane, so when they smile at the end of a choreography, I for one, exhale out of relief. What I love about these videos is that you see different people do the same choreography but it feels fresh every time 'cause they all have their own styles and twists to it.

All these videos reminded me of the Step-Up movies and how I really liked the choreographies there as well, so of course I went and watched several of the performances in Step-Up: Miami Heat and Step-Up 3 which i believe to have the coolest performances. From a movie critic point of view (which I am not) the movies are basically all the same, sometimes with different characters and in different locations but the performances are super fun to watch and very enjoyable.

Naturally btw, watching these videos and movies makes you want to try it out yourself, which in my case quickly lead to frustration about how not in control I am over my body.

...well I guess you can't have everything
