CW 47: Juggling

"Not just a metaphor for life, but also a good distraction from it" - Hannah

A while back, I don't actually recall what the occasion was, I got gifted some juggling balls. As with all new things you want to learn, whether it's a language, instrument or any other skill, you are super invested at first and extremely focused and organized but then there is this point that will determine, whether you stay in your routine or slowly lose interest and get to a point where you completely forget about what it was you wanted to learn. Well, this was what happened to me with juggling (and several other things in life, but let's leave that for another day).

However, now during lockdown #2 I found my juggling balls again and went back to learning to juggle and it has proven to be a great distraction from everything that's going on. It's also a good way to get away from the laptop screen, focus on something else and actually move around a bit. Depending on who I'm talking to I could actually describe it as a sport - so that's something. Anyhow, juggling is super fun. I feel so coordinated even though I manage a maximum of like five "circles" (my juggling jargon isn't completely on point there, but you know what I mean). Usually I lose at least one ball after a good three throws but I'm getting there. Practice makes the master, as the say in German.

Now, the fact that I'm back to juggling reminded me of that one time my physics teacher told me that I looked like Krusty the Clown from The Simpsons while wearing a helmet (which back then, I was around 13 I thought was super rude, it still is). Well, this wasn't just a random thought but me juggling will probably complete his picture of me being a clown, so you're welcome? I don't know.

Whatever, it's always super fun to catch up on old hobbies/skills. A while ago, when I moved out and didn't have internet in my apartment for a while I went back to playing a lot of chess, which I was quite good at when I was a kid, but eventually stopped playing because it was uncool (?). Well, I guess I just wasn't meant to be a chess grandmaster. It's funny though, how it brings back so many memories when you pick up old hobbies and skills
