CW 6: Jigsaw Puzzles

07.02.2021

They say the journey is the reward...

Just like in life. For some reason YouTube suggested me a few videos by this channel called "Karen puzzles", yes Karen. As the name suggests, a woman named Karen records herself doing all sorts of jigsaw puzzles. Me being all distracted of course I watched that video and some more.

The videos are quite long but it's kind of fun to skip through them and watch the time lapses of her doing the puzzles. Anyhow, that reminded me of the times I used to do jigsaw puzzles with my mom. I remember one summer especially, I was going to a tennis camp, so I spent the days playing tennis from 9am to 3pm and that week happened to be extremely hot. Every day when I would come home, my mom had some fresh watermelon prepared and after my shower, we would just eat it and do the jigsaw puzzles for a while. What a good time...

However, when watching these videos this week it reminded me of that time and how relaxing jigsaw puzzles are. With all the "studying" I was craving time away from my laptop and just chilling out. The thought of doing jigsaw puzzles while listening to music or a podcast for hours just sounded like heaven to me. Thought, done. I took some puzzles from back home and made out some space in my apartment so I would have a place to do the puzzles. Of course, since we are highly competitive in my family, we're talking about puzzles of at least 1000 pieces, and they need space. I started the first puzzle on Wednesday evening and was done Friday. Sorting out the pieces while watching a movie and putting it all together while listening to "Panic! At the Disco" really helped me to get my mind off things when I got tired of that pseudo-English my professor was speaking and just needed time away from my laptop. I started the next puzzle right after that and at this point am on my third 1500-piece-puzzle.

It's quite addictive but highly relaxing and I'm catching up on a lot of movies I wanted to see over the past few months. I sometimes forget to take the time to lay back a bit, so to anyone reading this or simply to my feature self, coming back to this: let this be the reminder to just relax when you need it.

...after all taking a step back will take you two steps forward.
