CW 7: Music Videos

14.02.2021

Disclaimer: delayed entry (so I'm trying to remember what I was thinking back then)

I've never been very interested in music videos. Whenever I like a song, I would just listen to the song and not care about more than that. Especially, since I'm oldschool and still own an iPod from which I listen to music, there is no opportunity to watch music videos, while listening to the songs. However, recently I started listening to music on Youtube more and more and so, I was introduced to several music videos. I somehow always had the feeling they were redundant. I can't really explain why. Anyhow, with listening to "the author" by Luz I started watching that video on repeat. I got back to listening to twentyone pilots a lot and watched some of their music video for their album "trench" and thought the videos were really well made. They are like little movies with the perfect score. Some of the Camila Cabello songs I used to listen to came up too and they were actually quite funny. I also got suggested "I really like you" by Carly Rae Jepsen, which randomly features Tom Hanks, so seeing someone you'd never expect in a music video is quite funny. Like in P!nk's "Beautiful Trauma" where she dances with Channing Tatum or in "Girls like you" by Maroon 5. Sometimes there are little details spread throughout the video that make you smile. I remember back in high school I stumbled upon the music video to "everything has changed" by Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran and watched that on repeat. It's something about these videos that are kind of catchy. Like movies everyone sees and interprets the song and video differently and I love discussing them and seeing what meaning others see.
