The lecture part of this course discussed advanced theoretical concepts of visualization such as:

• Survey on Visualization
• Spatio-Temporal Visualization
• Web-Based Information Visualization
• Visualization for Non-Destructive Testing
• Visual Text Analytics
• Visualization Design and Evaluation
• Comparative Visualization

In the practical part we implemented programming tasks resulting from a scientific article and a dataset of our choice. My project implemented a way of sentiment analysis and resulted in a dashboard for to analyze the sentiment of select topics over a period of time - in my case the Oscars in 2017 when La La Land was announced as the Best Picture winner but really Moonlight had one. The idea of the dashboard was to help create situational awareness of an unfolding or ongoing emergency situation. The dashboard can help in crisis management by alerting emergency responders to a new incident, and helping them prepare their response based on real-time information from crowd-sourced, on-scene reporting.
